Proper Care
We want your panther chameleons to stay as happy and healthy as the day you take them home!
It is necessary to keep your chameleon in a proper habitat. It is recommended that they be placed in a well-ventilated terrarium or screened enclosure measuring at least 16 x 16 x 30 inches. A full grown adult male should be in an enclosure at least 24” x 24” x 48”. The enclosure must also have materials for the chameleon to climb, hang, hide, and hunt from. We recommend real and fake branches and vines or other materials that they can climb around on. These can be purchased from us directly, through a pet store or various places online. The enclosure must be cleaned regularly to ensure the health of your chameleon.
Your chameleon will also need regulated temperature of their habitat. UVB lighting is very important as well as a basking light. It is necessary to keep the top of the habitat warmer and the bottom cooler. The top should be between 90 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the bottom should be between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit during the day. For this you will need a heat lamp. We also recommend a thermometer for the habitat to ensure they are kept at the proper temperatures.
Humidity and access to water are also critical for your chameleon. The humidity level in your chameleon's habitat should be between 65% and 80%. You can track the moisture level with a humidity gauge. The habitat should also include an automatic fogger, mister or drip system. Your chameleon will not drink from a bowl or dish, but instead lick droplets of water off of leaves and other materials in their habitats. We recommend that you spray or mist the habitat with water to allow you chameleon to have plenty of water available.
Chameleons need to be fed daily. Chameleons will eat crickets, hornworms, silkworms, dubia roaches, and superworms. Adult chameleons eat less often, 3-5 feeders every other day. We also recommend that you dust their food in a calcium supplement with each feeding (easily purchased from any pet supply store you are already buying your bugs) to ensure they are getting the nutrients they need.
While this may seem like quite a bit, chameleons are very easy to keep happy and healthy once they have the proper habitat set up!
